Stories on Tap: Blackstone Brewing Company in the 1990s
Nashville’s craft beer scene didn’t appear overnight. Long before taprooms filled every neighborhood, there were a handful of places quietly building something lasting. For Steve Sullivan, co-host of The Brewery Underground Podcast, that place was Blackstone Brewing Company.
In our new series, Stories on Tap, Steve shares a memory from a time when craft beer wasn’t yet a scene, just a few good brews and the people who believed in them. Let's hear what he has to say:
I wanted to share a fun memory about a place that was craft beer, before craft beer was cool. Blackstone Brewing Company. When I moved here in 1998. There were limited options of finding anything outside of the regular brand names of domestic beer. But Blackstone Brewing Company was different. From the St. Charles Porter to the Nut Brown Ale, I was hooked early on! Over the years, when I return to Blackstone. I always arrive with a smile on my face. I love how they have stayed the course in the craft beer scene. Producing some good brews. My absolute favorite choice. One that comes out each year. The Pumpkin Ale. The subtle, spicy kick is perfect! Not just as a seasonal beer. But a good choice, almost year-round. It won a Gold Medal in 2023 at The Great American Beer Festival.
Blackstone will forever be my number one craft beer destination in Nashville. They have stood the test of time! Kudos to Owner Kent Taylor, as Blackstone celebrates 30 years!
